The Stanford Marching Band plays Radar Love

The Play: Bears Attack the Band

Arguably the best finish in college football history…. November 20, 1982: Stanford has a 20-19 lead with 4 seconds left. Cal uses five lateral passes to return the ensuing kickoff for the winning TD…with the band on the field.

Mt. Whitney Mojo for Stanford

When I summitted Mount Whitney — highest point in the 48 states — on October 1, 2009, I saw this guy. He put in headphones and did what looked like a little dance. I caught the last 20 or so seconds, then asked what was what. He said his son plays tuba in the Stanford Marching Band, and he told his son that when he made the top he would put on his ipod and "conduct" the Stanford Fight Song with his hiker pole in one hand and a "Beat Cal" sticker in the other. This is him, taking it down the home stretch. I told him with this much Mountain Mojo, Stanford was probably good to beat USC, too — and, in fact, two days after this was shot, they whupped UCLA.
